This route includes a technical qualification that gives students the chance to develop skills and knowledge in engineering. They will work on employer-led projects that are at the heart of our approach to learning at the UTC, unlike a typical sixth form college. Students also undertake an extended project and advanced Level 3 qualifications in Mathematics.

The qualifications in this route will include the following, which meets the requirements of the Technical Baccalaureate:

  • BTEC Engineering Extended Diploma, equivalent to 3 A levels
  • Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) equivalent to half an A level
  • Maths A level or
  • Core Maths, equivalent to half an A level

Entry requirements for the Technical route: 5 GCSEs at 9-4 grade including English and maths.

Re-take English and/or Mathematics.

It may be possible to enrol on a level 3 pathway having not reached the minimum entry criteria in English and/or Mathematics GCSE. In this case, the curriculum will be supplemented with a re-take option, with GCSE examinations to be sat in Year 12.
